In 2000, a small group of initiators led by Peter Abell, Siegwart Lindenberg and Peter Hedström started the EAS initiative. During 2001 and 2002, the group was extended, and the idea was further developed. This led to the official announcement of the EAS in the 2002 September issues of European Sociological Review with Raymond Boudon as Founding President. In addition, Sir Ralf Dahrendorf, Professor Gudmund Hernes, Professor Gordon Marshall, and Professor Robert Merton were the honorary fellows at that time. The other 23 regular fellows can be found in the initial publication.
HONORARY FELLOW
Since then, the EAS has held yearly meetings, the number of fellows has increased, and the members' profiles diversified. Through the years, the Academy has been led by Raymond Boudon, Peter Hedström, Werner Raub, Frank Kalter, Emmanuel Lazega, and Lucinda Platt. Currently, Prof. Gudmund Hernes and Prof. John Goldthorpe are honorary fellows. In addition, there are 44 ordinary fellows and 18 emeritus fellows.
