Vincent Buskens is Professor of Theoretical Sociology at the Department of Sociology / ICS, Utrecht University. His current research focuses on formal and informal institutions to mitigate trust relations as well as the dynamics of social networks and social cohesion. To research these questions, he applies a wide variety of theoretical and empirical tools, including game theory, social simulation, laboratory experiments, vignette experiments, and survey research. He is part of the SOCION-consortium that will study social cohesion using an interdisciplinary approach, financed by a Dutch Summit grant between 2025 and 2035. Recent publications include: Advances in the Sociology of Trust and Cooperation (2020, De Gruyter, co-edited with Rense Corten and Chris Snijders) and articles in journals such as Rationality and Society, Scientific Reports, European Economic Review, and Psychological Science.
