Karl Ulrich Mayer is  the Director Emeritus of the Max Planck Institute for Human Development and Stanly B. Resor Emeritus Professor of Sociology at Yale University. His research interests include: higher education and labour markets; social stratification and mobility; sociology and social policy of the life course; problems of vocational training and academic careers and university reform.
