Francesco C. Billari is Professor of Demography at the Department of Policy Analysis and Public Management of Bocconi University and Vice-Rector of Development. At Bocconi, he founded the „Carlo F. Dondena“ Centre for Research on Social Dynamics and is a fellow of the Innocenzo Gasparini Institute for Economic Research. He is Secretary-General of the European Association for Population Studies, Research Affiliate of the Population Research Center at the University of Pennsylvania and member of the Advisory Board of the Netherlands Interdisciplinary Demographic Institute. He has been head of research group at the Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research (1999-2002). He has held visiting positions and/or board roles at the University of Pennsylvania, Pompeu Fabra University (Barcelona), INED (Paris), Max Planck Institute for Human Development (Berlin), Universities of Padua and Milan-Bicocca and Catholic University (Milan). His research focuses on demography, the life course (he is Editor-in-Chief of Advances in Life Course Research), comparative family dynamics, quantitative research methods, survey design and policy modeling.
